Yard Services

We provide a wide range of arborist and landscaping services. Just because you can't find exactly what you need done on the list, it doesn't necessarily mean we can't do it! Contact us and let us know what you need. No job is too small.

Hedge and Shrub Pruning or Removal

Overgrown hedges? Lilacs out of control? Looking to get rid of some pesky bushes?

Not only does careful and selective pruning greatly improve the look of your yard, it's also essential to growing strong and healthy plants of any kind.

Sometimes when the foliage is just too much, it's better to have it removed altogether. We remove hedges, bushes, and junipers, not just by cutting them to ground level, but we also dig up their roots to prevent regrowth and suckering. After removals, we can backfill with fresh dirt and help make room for a new garden, or even sod the area over making it look like there was never anything there.

Pruning and removal costs are set on a case-by-case basis, depending on the scale and complexity of the project. Contact us for a free quote!

Disease Treatment and Control

Like all living things, your shrubs and bushes are susceptible to infection and disease. At Glenmore Yard and Tree we have experience treating the most common diseases that effect our trees and shrubs in Alberta.

Black Knot Fungus
Black knot.jpg

The Black Knot Fungus (or poop-on-a-stick disease) is a devastating fungal infection that effects a wide variety of trees and shrubs in Alberta. The fungus initially infects the branches, and left untreated, will enter into and rot away at the core of the shrub - eventually killing it.

Black knot should be cut out as soon as it appears in order to prevent its spread, and rotten or infected limbs must be removed.

The cost of Black Knot removal is determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the size and extent of the infection. Contact us for a free quote!

Oystershell Scale
Oystershell infection.jpg

Oystershell Scale is a disease widespread in Calgary, caused by a small pest which lays eggs that resemble oyster shell-shaped blights. The disease affects cotoneaster hedges, lilacs, and a wide variety of shrubs and trees. Left untreated, the disease begins to smother the plant it lives on, eventually killing it.

Oystershell scale is best treated by spraying affected areas with a heavy coating of horticultural oil, which smothers and kills the eggs that cause the disease. In severe cases, infected branches should be removed, or the affected hedge/shrub should be cut to ground level.

Spraying for oystershell in hedges costs $20 per 10ft of hedge, or $180 per 100ft.  Contact us for a free quote!

Mulching

Adding mulch to a garden bed or a cluster of trees not only looks and smells amazing, it also provides the plants and trees with the nutrients and organic matter they needs to grow. Most importantly, mulching helps retain moisture in the soil, and protects plants against dry spells.

The cost of mulching depends on the type and quantity of mulch required. Contact us for a free quote!

Deep Root Fertilization

Top Dressing Lawns

Top dressing your lawn is the best way to improve its health and appearance in the long run.

Top dressing involves laying a 1/4 - 1/2 inch thick layer of nutrient-rich soil over the lawn, thereby improving the soil quality, improving moisture retention, and helping grow thicker and greener grass. Top-dressed lawns are more resistant to drought, grow less patchy, require less fertilizer, and have more developed root systems compared to lawns that are left alone.

Top dressing costs $520 per 1000sqft of lawn. Contact us for more information.

Fertilizing

Safe, natural, and effective fertilization for your gardens and plants!

Trees, gardens, and bushes could all use a boost from time to time! Fertilizing plants helps encourage growth and protects from pests and diseases. If you're looking to protect your bushes from disease, or give your garden a little extra vigour during the growing season, fertilizing is the way to go. We use all-natural kelp-based fertilizer in all our work, which is not only child and pet friendly, it's also better for our environment as a whole.

Fertilizing your front and back yard, shrubs, and bushes costs around $120, the exact price depending on the size and scope of work. Contact us for a free quote!

Installing Edging

Keep the garden out of the grass with our clean, sleek, heavy-duty edging.

In all our landscaping work, we use aluminum cleanline edging, which not only gives your yard a clean and finished look, but also extremely durable, and highly effective at keeping soil, mulch, and debris in its place. After digging a small trench to nest the edging, we use 8-inch stakes to keep it in place. The edging can be installed seamlessly around corners and bends, giving your yard an organic and dynamic look.

Edging installation costs approximately $7 a foot, and will last a lifetime. Contact us for more information.

Sod Laying and Sod Removal

Grass that just won't grow? Want to clear some space for new projects?

When we lay sod, we make sure to give it the nutrient-rich soil and dose of fertilizer it needs in order to take root and grow strong and healthy. Whether you want a whole yard re-sodded, or just some troublesome areas patched up, we are happy to help!

If sod needs removed, we can quickly and efficiently dig it up, and haul it away out of sight and out of mind.

Cost of sod laying and sod removal is determined on a case by case basis.
